You can try the manual reset which is hold down both the center button and the top of the click wheel at the same time for 10 or 20 seconds. Now that’s never worked for me but….

Have you tried connecting it to your computer? Sometimes I have had good luck with that. When it freezes I simply plug it in, Itunes will open and then I close down Itunes and unplug it.
That has worked for me several times. I have a 30GB Video Ipod.

go with other peoples answers, but if it continues to freeze it could be a software error. What you should do is cet the newest version of itunes and update the software inside of the ipod by formating it. I am assuming it is a harddrive based model.
